The major objective and goal of a position paper are to convince the reader, it can somewhat be likened to an argumentative or persuasive essay, therefore when writing a position paper you must carefully distinguish it from being seen as a persuasive or argumentative essay.

A position paper sample is not a minimal essay, writing it takes dedication to research and strong points. A position paper cannot be written based on opinions or personal beliefs, your arguments must be backed up with strong evidence.

Examples of Position Paper Essays

In this article, essay samples of position papers will be highlighted and explained fully.

  • Globalization; has globalization led to the rise of interdependency amongst states in the international arena?

I strongly believe globalization and its policies has caused nations to depend on each other. Globalization is the integration of the world into an interchange of world views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture. Advances in transportation and telecommunications, infrastructure, including the rise of the telegraph and it’s development, the internet are major factors of globalization generating further dependence of economic and cultural activities. Essentially, globalization has brought about increasing interdependency in the international arena as stated have become intertwined in diverse activities which cut across the political, economic, cultural, humanitarian etc sphere of life. Both 1st and 3rd world countries have overtime depended on one another for development. Economically, developed and underdeveloped countries depend on one another in their various economic activities by following the principle, policies, and ideas of an economic relationship.

  • The principle of comparative advantage is built on the specialty of a nation in its area of comparative advantage. Comparative advantage in the sense that a country categorically specializes in the production of a certain product which she possesses in abundance. As a result of these states depend on another state that produces foods that are not their own comparative advantage.

This fosters the economic dependency of nations on one another in the international system. For instance, Nigeria’s comparative advantage is Crude oil but depend on Western nations for manufactured goods, like vehicles etc. Likewise, Japan depends on Saudi Arabia’s in developing its manufacturing industries and Saudi Arabia depends on Japan for manufactured foods.

  • The Stock exchange market also increases interdependence of states as they come together to this market where different currencies are traded. The more the value of a nation’s currency in the stock market, the higher the economic development of such nation.
  • In the aspect of information technology, less or none-technological developed nations depend on the technologically advanced ones. This info-tech includes internet facilities etc. Info-tech also comes in the manufacture of gadgets like phones, computers, electronics etc, less developed nations hence depend on developed ones.
  • Free trade zone, the theory of free trade zone is agreed that nations should accept other nations to sell their goods or establish an industry in their state. Free trade zones enable governments to enable preferential trading arrangements with foreign and multinational entities. These make state governments depend on these foreign entities for manufactured goods and the investors also depend on the government for the market to sell their goods.
  • International organs like the UN also brings interdependency. For example in the area of security, nations in crisis depend on the UN in some cases to solve their crises through peacekeeping.

The second example would be:

  1. Do you think homework should be a mandatory thing?

We all know the answer. As the question is being asked, we can see students are nodding their head and the answer is no for them. But to be homework would always be there. But I do feel it should not be a mandatory part. Why I am saying this? Let me explain:

  • The children spend the maximum time of the day at school when they get back, they are always tired. And then homework makes things more pressurizing for them. Sometimes they do feel lost as well
  • -sitting at the desk does not help their health as well. Sometimes they cannot even enjoy their life. Playing football or other things become impossible for them.

From the article, you will realize that the essay samples were supported by strong arguments making the position of the writer clear. That is how a good position essay should be.
